A little more info ......
Mozambique is one of the poorest countries in the world, destroyed by a brutal civil war which lasted between 1977 and 1992, Mozambique is now in the stages of a recovery, however still suffering from a constrained economy.
Young people in Mozambique suffer the most with 39% of young people unemployed, the situation is even worse for young women with almost 56% unemployed. With little prospects and education many young people engage in risky behaviour, and now 25% of all recorded deaths in Mozambique are from AIDs related illnesses.
The SERVE project in Mozambique will support “Young Africa”, an organisation that is committed to the capacity building of the youth sector in Southern Africa. On the Young Africa campuses, local young people have the opportunity to learn skills ranging from dressmaking to agriculture to mechanics, through practical and theory training as well as engaging in life-skills and business classes.
Susan and her team of volunteers will financially support the Young Africa project, while lending their time and energy to assist in the workshops on-site and leading an outreach to local orphanages and community organisations. They will also contribute to the on-going skills training and personal development projects within the campus, focussing specifically on the on-site hostel for orphan girls. They will also assist in the development of the new YAgri-tech agricultural skills training campus
